We all learned the three R's in elementary school (you know, reduce, reuse, recycle) but green living and protecting our planet for future generations doesn't stop there. Green Works Orlando is leading the charge in sustainability by showing our city what is possible.

Garden in the Sky. Did you know that there is eggplant and lettuce growing on the roof of Orlando Fire Department 1? Well there is, and much more! This rooftop garden, which sits atop a Gold LEED Certified building, grows fresh produce for the Parramore Mobile Market and Hebni’s Fresh Stop Bus.  This partnership between Green Works Orlando and the Orlando Fire Department is a great example of how we can create more sustainable methods to producing vegetables in a food desert (aka city). It's a Community Thing.
As our city continues to expand and buildings go up, you may wonder how it is possible that the City of Orlando has more than 700 community gardens. But it does. These community spaces provide a place for neighbors to come together and for children to learn where their food comes from.

Community gardens provide many benefits, outside of showcasing your green thumb skills, such as reducing your carbon footprint and providing an affordable source of food to our community. And, given our current climate, we are all searching for outside activities that everyone can enjoy. Visit your nearest community garden or reach out to learn how to sign-up and tend your own garden plot.
