Hispanic Heritage Month
Mayor Buddy Dyer and District 2 City Commissioner Tony Ortiz invite you to join them in celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month now through October 15th. This year, the Hispanic Heritage Month national theme is "We Are All, We Are One," highlighting the diversity inherent within the Hispanic community and our nation. In special celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, and the important role art plays within the Hispanic culture, the City of Orlando will host an art exhibition featuring a variety of historical and worldwide dominoes, domino game tables, as well as art pieces from local visual artists dedicated to this renowned family sport. The art exhibition will run now through November 13th at the Terrace Gallery located in City Hall.
Music in the Library: El Mariachi Show
Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with the unique sounds of El Mariachi Show at Orlando Public Library on September 30th at 3pm. Listen as they take you on a musical journey to some of the Latin countries. Celebrating Hispanic Voices: An Evening of Spoken Word
From the cultural expression of Langston Hughes to the Beat Poets of the 1950s to modern rap and hip-hop music, performance poetry follows the trend of rhythmic engagement with listeners. Join The Dr. Phillips Center for Celebrating Hispanic Voices: An Evening of Spoken Word on September 29th at 8pm. These wordsmiths, also referred to as spoken word artists, from the Latinx community, will join Orlando’s Poet Laureate, Shawn Welcome, and emerging local high school talents for a rarely seen and heard 90-minute interactive showcase that will solidify anyone’s definition of spoken word poetry. These artists will present original works that will help audience’s understand the power of poems as social commentary and gaining perspective on the Latinx experience. Dog Day in the Gardens
Calling all dog lovers! Join in the fun on Saturday, October 14, from 9am to 3pm for Leu Gardens' very first Dog Day. Bring the whole family, including your lovable canine, for a stroll through the 50-acre Gardens. Each dog will receive a special goody bag with their very own Gardens’ bandana, while supplies last. This event will feature a range of fun activities and dog contests including Best Dressed, Most Talented, and Best Kisser. Several community organizations will be participating on this exciting first-ever Dog Day in the Gardens. Don’t miss the chance to interact with them, including DOP Member Dog Training Elite Orlando!
